Plan Your Distractions and Use Social Media Shamelessly
Most of us understand how important it is to plan your day.
Without a plan, you will often do what is easiest like using your phone.
Time is precious and none of us have any clue how many years, weeks, or days we have left.
When we want to build and produce, we need to plan our time.
We want to do a lot: work, spend time with the family, our friends, and entertain ourselves.
It is easy to get caught up in any activity, (like social media!) and if you are not careful, you will end the day without thinking: today was a productive day!
Aside from planning your work, why not consciously plan your distractions as well?
Social media is important to you? Then dedicate e.g. a full 2 hours for social media in the evening.
Just social media. Enjoy social media for 2 hours and you can do whatever you want.
Scroll, comment, post, share, anything that is congruent with your netiquette, and values.
Interestingly enough, what can happen, is that you will get bored after one hour.
If that’s the case: Good!! That’s the feeling you want to associate with social media.
You are aware now, you are consciously wasting your time. That’s not a nice feeling!
You may tell yourself; 2 hours is way too long! I only need one hour!
Great! Next time use social media for just one hour.
Whatever it is that you were doing on social media, make sure that you don’t log in again after the 2 hours is over.
Set the right expectations to people who you fear may wait anxiously for your reply.
By planning your distraction and entertainment-related tasks, you don’t have to feel bad about doing them since you have authorized yourself to act on them.
Once you’re done, make sure that whatever it is that you have planned next, your full focus and attention will go on that next task or person.
